If you have a Golden Retriever, you know how much they love to swim and play in the water. However, after a fun day at the beach or a dip in the pool, it’s important to dry your furry friend properly. Wet fur can cause skin irritation and create a breeding ground for bacteria. Drying your Golden Retriever at home not only keeps them healthy, but it can also save you money in the long run. Hopefully, if you dry them you can prevent some hot spots.
As of late it has been raining and snowing. Every time our goldens go outside to potty, they get wet. Each time we try and get them as dry as possible. In this article, we will discuss the various methods and tools you can use to dry your Golden Retriever at home.
Towel Drying
Towel drying is the most common and simple way to dry your Golden Retriever at home. You will need several large towels, depending on the size of your dog. First, use a towel to soak up as much water as possible from your dog’s fur. Then, gently rub your dog down with another towel to remove more moisture. Be sure to use a soft, absorbent towel to avoid irritating your dog’s skin. Repeat this process with additional towels until your dog is mostly dry.
Now if you don’t want to use your own towels for this purpose, then purchase towels that are specifically for a dog.
Blow Drying
Another option for drying your Golden Retriever is to use a blow dryer. This method is quicker than towel drying but requires more equipment. Human blow dryers can get too hot and damage your dog’s skin, so be careful how close you get to the skin. Begin by using a towel to remove the excess water from your dog’s fur. Then, use the blow dryer on the cool setting to dry your dog’s coat. Hold the dryer several inches away from your dog’s skin to avoid burning or overheating. Use a brush to help distribute the heat and to prevent tangles. Now if you don’t want to use your own dryer, then maybe try the next option.
Grooming Dryers
Grooming dryers are similar to blow dryers, but they are more powerful and designed for professional use. These dryers can dry your Golden Retriever in a matter of minutes, making them an excellent option for owners with multiple dogs. However, grooming dryers can be expensive and require a certain level of skill to use safely. If you decide to use a grooming dryer, be sure to follow the manufacturer’s instructions carefully and never leave your dog unattended. Here is an option that might work for you:
Drying Coats
Drying coats are an excellent tool for drying your Golden Retriever at home. These coats are made of absorbent material and wrap around your dog like a blanket. They soak up the moisture from your dog’s fur, allowing them to dry quickly and comfortably. Drying coats come in various sizes and styles, so be sure to measure your dog correctly before purchasing one. Follow the manufacturer’s instructions for proper use and washing. Think ShamWow!, but for dogs.
Absorbent Mats
Absorbent mats are another useful tool for drying your Golden Retriever at home. These mats are made of specialized material that absorbs moisture quickly, making them perfect for placing under your dog’s feet after a bath or swim. Simply place the mat in a location where your dog likes to lay and encourage them to rest on it. The mat will absorb the water from your dog’s fur and keep your floors dry. Personally, I would still try and dry them as much as possible with a towel, and then have them lie down on this mat if you don’t have enough time for full drying.
Summary
In most cases, I dry my dogs with a towel and have them go into an area for them to lie down in and wait out the rest of their drying. Usually, I do this after a rainstorm. If I am going for a full grooming session, then I use a dryer to get the rest of the water out of their coat. While drying I am constantly brushing them. As a result, their coats are silky soft.
Drying your Golden Retriever at home is a simple task that can save you time and money in the long run. Whether you choose to towel dry, use a blow dryer, or invest in a drying coat or grooming dryer, be sure to do so safely and correctly. Wet fur can cause health issues for your dog, so it’s essential to dry them thoroughly after they get wet. By using the right tools and techniques, you can keep your Golden Retriever healthy and happy for years to come.
